How to Start a Liquidation Pallet Resale Business

1. Choose a product category you understand

Start with products you can identify, inspect and explain to customers. Apparel, footwear, home goods, tools, toys and electronics each have different testing, storage, sizing and customer-service requirements. Experience in a category can help you spot missing parts, condition issues and realistic resale demand.

2. Decide where you will sell

Possible channels include a physical shop, local markets, your own online store and established marketplaces. Compare fees, shipping expectations, return rules and the time needed to manage listings. Make sure the channel allows the product types you plan to sell.

3. Understand the inventory before buying

Review the pallet description, condition, photos, quantity basis and manifest status. Ask questions about unclear details before placing an order. Do not assume every item is new or resale-ready. Plan for inspection, testing, sorting and items that may not be suitable for sale.

4. Build a realistic cost model

Include the purchase price, freight, taxes, unloading, storage, labour, repairs, packaging, selling fees and customer returns. Use conservative selling-price estimates and account for unsold inventory. A pallet that looks inexpensive can become costly once all operating expenses are included.

5. Start with a manageable purchase

Avoid committing more money or storage space than your business can handle. Your first purchase should help you understand the receiving, inspection, listing and fulfilment workload. Track the actual results so future buying decisions are based on evidence rather than assumptions.

6. Keep accurate records

Record the lot reference, purchase cost, shipping, units received, condition, listing date, sale price, fees, refunds and remaining stock. This makes it easier to understand which categories and suppliers work for your business.
